Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must fulfil the following conditions to be eligible for the internship:
1. Internship Interest and Duration
- The applicant must have a genuine interest in undertaking a life science-associated internship.
- The internship must be carried out for a fixed and minimum required duration.
- The allowed internship duration is:
- Two months (minimum 56 days), or
- Three months (minimum 84 days).
- Internships shorter than the above-mentioned duration will not be considered eligible under this program.
2. Academic Eligibility Requirements
- The applicant must be currently enrolled as a student at a recognized Indian institute.
- The applicant must belong to one of the following academic categories:
- 2nd year of a 3-year undergraduate program, or
- 2nd or 3rd year of a 4-year undergraduate program, or
- 1st year of a 2-year master’s program, or
- 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of a 5-year integrated program.
- Students who do not fall into any of these categories are not eligible to apply for the internship.
3. Internship Placement Requirement
- The applicant must already be accepted to work in the laboratory of a professor or principal investigator (PI).
- The acceptance must be confirmed before applying for the program.
- The internship must be undertaken at an institute outside the applicant’s own institute of study.
- Internships carried out at the applicant’s home institute will not be considered eligible.
4. Financial Assistance Restrictions
- Students who are already receiving financial support from any of the following sources are not eligible:
- Financial support from the Principal Investigator (PI), or
- Financial support from other agencies such as KVPY, INSA, JNCASR, IIT, IISER, etc.
- Applicants receiving funding from any other organization cannot receive additional support from the NGSF program.
- The program does not support internships where interns are required to pay any kind of fee.
- Program funds are meant only for traditional unpaid internships without any charges or fees.

- NGSF interns will receive a stipend of INR 6,000 per month for all approved on-site internships conducted under this program.
- Interns who choose to undertake remote internships will receive a monthly stipend of INR 3,000 per month during the approved internship period.
