NEET 2026 New Rules — What Has Changed This Year?

NTA has introduced some significant changes for NEET 2026 in the wake of last year’s controversy. Every aspirant must be aware of these updates:

1. Aadhaar-Based eKYC During Registration

For the first time, NTA made Aadhaar-based eKYC mandatory during registration. A live photo was also captured while candidates filled out the application form. This is a direct measure to prevent impersonation and ensure identity authenticity.

2. Biometric Verification at Exam Centres

Every candidate must undergo compulsory biometric verification — including fingerprint scanning and facial recognition — before entering the exam hall. If the biometric check fails due to technical reasons (such as dry skin), the candidate can submit a written undertaking and proceed. NTA has confirmed this will not delay or disqualify them.

3. Aadhaar Biometric Update Advisory

NTA has strongly advised all candidates to update their Aadhaar biometric details in advance to avoid any verification-related delays or issues at the examination centre.

4. Exam City Based on Verified Address

Exam city allocation is now linked to the candidate’s verified residential address as submitted in the eKYC process — reducing misuse of city preferences.

5. Tiebreaker Rule Updated

In the event of a tied score, priority will be given first to the candidate with higher marks in Biology, then Chemistry, then Physics, and finally based on the lower number of incorrect answers.
